Kate Davison is an active flutist, piccolist and teacher living in Boston. She recently completed a certificate program in piccolo at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music studying with Catherine Payne, piccoloist of the San Francisco Symphony. While in San Francisco, Kate performed with San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music orchestra. This summer, Kate attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival where she performed as principal flute with the Sewanee Symphony under the baton of JoAnn Falletta. Additionally, she had the opportunity to perform with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra, and was a semi-finalist in the Jacqueline Avent concerto competition. 

Prior to her time in San Francisco, Kate received her master’s degree with academic honors from the New England Conservatory as a student of Renee Krimsier. Notable performances include the world premiere of Symphony No.4 "Chromelodeon" by Aaron Jay Kernis in Boston’s Symphony Hall with the NEC Philharmonia, performances and recordings with the NEC Wind Ensemble, and with outreach-based Eureka Ensemble. Additionally during her time in Boston, Kate worked in administration at the Boston Symphony as well as at the Tanglewood Music Center.  

Kate began her studies at The Hartt School, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in flute performance under the tutelage of Janet Arms. While at Hartt, Kate was a member of the Hartt Wind Ensemble, where she can be heard on Heavy Weather, one of several Hartt Wind Ensemble Naxos recorded wind band classic albums. Kate was also a member of the Hartt Symphony Band, Hartt Orchestra, and Hartt’s contemporary ensemble Foot in the Door.

Additional influential teachers include Donna Shin, Cynthia Meyers and Peter Schultz. As a dedicated teacher herself, Kate is a faculty member at All Newton Music School, Groton Hill Music Center, and Hopkinton Center for the Arts. Aside from music, Kate enjoys cooking, exploring nature, and taking her corgi, Bocce, to the beach.
